Our ladies’ Bible study group is finishing the Bible book of Esther at this time. But I have learned some deeper significances of this account that are important for believers today. We know that God conceals His truths from those who do not seek Him (i.e. the parables – Mark 4:11, and Isaiah 6:9,10 He said, “Go and tell this people:’Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving. Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”) and reveals them to those who ‘diligently seek Him’. In fact, the book of Esther is the only book that does not mention God at all, yet He is obviously behind the scenes orchestrating the miraculous deliverance of Jews from 127 provinces in the Persian kingdom of the 5th century from Haman’s decree to have them all exterminated.

perry-stoneEvangelist Perry Stone, in his book The Prophetic FUTURE Concealed in Israel’s Festivals, digs deep into the hidden prophecies in Esther to reveal corresponding events of the end times. Here’s one way God has hidden his true meaning: you might ask why the virtuous Hebrew girl Hadassah would take on the pagan name Esther, which was a form of Ishtar (also known as Astarte, Ashteroth, or Easter), a Babylonian fertility goddess,  when she was ‘trying out’ for King Xerxes’s new queen. Yet the Hebrew spelling of Esther suggests something not obvious to the casual student: something has been hidden from the eyes of the heathen and is visible only to those who are looking for the handiwork of the Creator. The four Hebrew letters that spell ‘Esther’ can also be rendered as the word ‘esater’ which means ‘I will conceal’. Thus, God allows the Hebrew Hadassah to ‘masquerade’ as the Persian Esther. God did this because He alone knew the heart of the wicked Haman before he was ever promoted to be the King’s second in command, a position that would allow him to persecute God’s people. A lesson here is that even when we can’t perceive the Adversary’s threat against us and our family, the heavenly Father is already working on our behalf. He simply wants us to commit ourselves to His purposes with our whole heart, as Esther did in risking her own life to save her people. Her attitude, like that of Shadrach, Meshech and Abednego, was ‘if I perish, I perish’. This mindset is important for believers today to embrace because in the end of days we will overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony, and will love not our lives to the death (Revelation 12:11). Although the lives of these four were saved, we may need to succumb to death in order to accomplish God’s purposes.

statueHere are some fascinating parallels hidden in the book of Esther. Haman was from Persia (today Iran) and today we constantly hear of Iran’s plan to destroy all of Israel and the Jews. Haman plotted to kill all the Jews just as the future antichrist will conspire to move toward Jerusalem where, inspired by and possessed by Satan himself, this treacherous world dictator will try to annihilate the Jewish people and Israel. Note that Haman’s ten sons were with him in his evil plan. But Haman and his sons were eventually exposed by the queen and hung on the very gallows intended for the Jews. The future antichrist will be aligned with ten kings, identified as the ten toes on the metallic image of Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 2) and the ten horns on the beast (Revelation 17:12, 16). Esther’s intercession was vital to rescue the Jews worldwide. Today, at the end of the seven year tribulation the ‘queen’ bride of Christ will return with her King (Revelation 19) and participate in defeating the beast kingdom – the antichrist and his ten kings, and rescue the remnant of Jews from annihilation.

I have wondered why the death of the ten sons of Haman is mentioned twice in Esther 9:10 and again in Esther 9:13? Perry Stone suggests that this could be a double reference to both a literal and a future event. Haman is obviously a prophetic picture of the future antichrist of prophecy, and his ten sons are a prophetic preview of the ten kings of the apocalypse who will arise and give their kingdom to the antichrist (Revelation 17:12-17). This is a prophetic layer hidden in the story, but digging deeper into the Hebrew text, there’s another message.

In the Hebrew, the first, seventh and tenth names of Haman’s sons have one letter that is one half the size of the other Hebrew letters in the ten names. They are tav, shin and tzion. When adding up their numbers (gematria – each letter has a numeric value), they total 5706, which is equivalent to our Gregorian calendar year of 1946 (Jewish year 5706). On October 16, 1946, eleven Nazi’s were scheduled to be hung for war crimes against the Jews. Before the hanging, one of them committed suicide, leaving TEN. Their deaths fell on PURIM. The three smaller Hebrew letters in the Hebrew scroll of Esther were not formed in modern times, but existed in that form and were copied in that manner for centuries. What some thought was a copyist mistake was actually a prophetic clue to a future event that would one day repeat the same events recorded in Esther – a future event concealed in a past story!

Xerxes the Great with Queen EstherAs Haman and his sons plotted to destroy all the Jews, so will the antichrist and his ten kings initiate a final attempt to destroy all the Jews of today. However, just as Haman met his doom, the antichrist will meet his doom and the remaining Jewish people will survive the tribulation, as did the Jews in the 127 provinces (Esther 1:1). Esther the Queen ruled with the king, and the saints of God, Jew and gentile, will rule with Messiah for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-6).

Even more prophetic parallels from Esther are found in the two modern day Gulf wars. The first one was initiated by Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait in 1990. When threatened with invasion himself, he quickly turned his Scud missiles on Israel, resulting in missiles and bombs falling on him and his armies, ending in his surrender – on PURIM! The second one, 12 years later resulted in the complete downfall of Hussein’s regime and elimination of one of Israel’s most aggressive enemies. That war began on Shusan PURIM (the extra day requested by Esther). It is prophetic that, just as Haman was hung on the gallows, Saddam met his death by hanging!

“Seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you; for everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8

  1. The Bible prophecies are great importance to mankind. There is know prophecy anywhere in the entire Bible that the Israelites will be exterminated. Rather, they will be like the sand of the sea shore, i.e. they will be in every continent of the world, including West Africa. The Yoruba people (Yehubawa – Arabic transliteration), the igbo, Kanuri, Ewe, etc have israel origin. 2. The biblical prophecies are of great importance to man. All the enemies of the Jews, especially from the Islamic world, should have known by now eventhough they failed to know in the past that the LORD had said that ‘the seed of Israel shall not cease from being a nation before me for ever’ as long as His ordinances remain concerning the sun, moon, … as written in Jer. 31:35-37. And they will never hear because they claim to seek God, but not, for a true worshiper of God is expected to know the word as written in the Holy Bible. In conclusion, Isaiah 6:10 is applicable to them.
