IS BIBLE PROPHECY IMPORTANT?

I just returned from a week at Word Of Life Family Campground in the Adirondacks, where we heard Spirit filled messages each day from 3 Bible teachers, most prominent of which was Joel Rosenberg, prophecy teacher, leader of the Joshua Fund, author, founder of the annual Epicenter Conferences, a messianic believer (Jewish) in Christ. Sprinkled with humility and humor, his messages showed us that 27% of the Bible is prophecy, in both the Old and New Testaments. There are 8 times more prophecies about the second coming than the first coming of Messiah Jesus. He told us that prophecy is not ‘prediction’. God seldom tells us WHEN something will happen, only that it WILL happen. He lamented that most Christian churches avoid preaching and teaching on prophecy for a few reasons:

Lack of belief in God’s power

Lack of belief that the Bible is infallible and authoritative

Lack of knowledge or training in prophecy

Fear of being labeled a ‘nut’ or ‘sensationalist’

BEING UNAWARE OF THE TIMES WE LIVE IN

He said that he has been invited to speak to a number of unbelieving organizations including government agencies and Arab nations because they want to know what the Bible says will happen in the future of this frightening world of today, yet the churches keep far away from God’s prophecies.

WOLLogoIn the book of Ezekiel alone, it says 65 times ‘Thus will they know that I am the Lord’. Over half of the prophecies which God through His Holy Spirit spoke to people like Daniel, Ezekiel, Joel, Amos, Isaiah, and many others, have already been fulfilled. EVERY PROPHECY FROM GOD DOES AND WILL COME TRUE. God created and knows EVERYTHING. He wants people to know Him and to be saved from everlasting damnation so He inspired prophets and apostles to write His love letter and instruction book for us. His overarching message is that He loves us and wants us to follow Him and His son the Christ and live in the Kingdom of God forever.

Leading up to his messages on Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39, Joel taught us the purposes of prophecy:

1 To reveal that the God of Israel is the God of the universe

2 To reveal that the Bible is the inspired Word of God

3 To require us to study diligently and humbly and to teach it

4 To teach us about the first coming of Messiah

5 To point to the second coming of Messiah

6 To build up, challenge, encourage, comfort the church to live holy until the last days, to preach the gospel to the nations, and to endure suffering

7 To warn unbelievers in Israel and everywhere to REPENT and turn to Christ before it is too late

Being Jewish, Joel had a lot to say about his people, with humor and humility. He said that Jews are born with a target on their chests and not only did God choose them, but so did Hitler, Ahmadinejad, the leaders of the Crusades, the Inquisitions and pogroms. He told us that God chose the Hebrews to first know Him DESPITE their REBELLIOUSNESS. His promises to them are irrevocable, not because they deserve it but because He is Holy and will show Himself faithful to His promises. The **Abrahamic covenant does not depend on their behavior, although subsequent covenants do and God has severely punished and exiled them more than once for their disobedience, idolatry and REBELLION. However, as this blog continues to put forth, God will and has begun already to restore His people, bring them back to their Land, something that even the church thought was impossible, bring their land back to productiveness, restore their ancient language, and finally to purify them spiritually. This last part hasn’t happened yet, but in the chapters Ezekiel 38 and 39 we see how that will come about. As Joel says, God is the ultimate writer of thrillers! We see that at the 11th hour, God himself comes to rescue His people from the enemy nations that surround them, when they are being aided by NOBODY else.

To keep this post short enough so that you will hopefully read it, I will not include the teachings on Ezekiel. But I will do so in a future post. We will see that we are definitely living in ‘the last days’, whether that means days, weeks, months or a generation. The main thing to remember here is that God will do what He says He will do. He will finally bring justice to the world. He loves all peoples, including the Palestinians, Arabs, Russians, Americans, everyone. He wants everyone to be saved from Satan’s hell fires.

** ABRAHAMIC COVENANT: Genesis 17:3-8 – Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.  I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”

–         Joel is the author of many ‘what if’ books of fiction which portray how these events MIGHT happen. He also writes a lot of non fiction where you can read his teachings on prophecy.
