I Just Watched This Movie

I need to share this movie with all of you who read my blog. If you watch no other movie this week, please click on the link below to see a full length, award winning film called ‘The Devil’s Arithmetic’ by Robert Avrech. It was created to help today’s Jewish young people understand what happened to many of  their grandparents, aunts and uncles during the Holocaust. In the movie, Hannah Stern is a young Jewish girl living in the present day. She is bored by her relative’s stories about the past and not looking forward to the Passover Seder. She says she is tired of remembering. When Hannah symbolically opens the door for the prophet Elijah, she is transported back in time to 1942 in Poland of World War II.

This is powerfully moving, not only for Jews but for gentiles alike. We must all remember so that we can prevent it from happening again. Please don’t say ‘I can’t watch things like that – it’s too gory’. Please don’t say that! You must watch things like this to try and feel the pain and horror experienced by millions, some of whom escaped and are still alive today! So, I beg you to set aside 2 hours and watch this beautifully portrayed story. Holocaust Remembrance Day is today, April 18, 2012. Watch and pray about how you can spread the word and the understanding. And find ways to bless the Jews in your life.
